A REVIEW OF D.H. LAWRENCE’S ‘SONS & LOVERS’

Sons and Lovers are one of David Herbert Lawrence’s most critically acclaimed works. It has been placed ninth in The Modern Library’s list of ‘100 Best Novels of the 20th Century’. Apart from being a writer, Lawrence was also a playwright, poet, essayist, painter and a literary critic. Even though ‘Sons and Lovers’ got a very reluctant response at the beginning, with many criticising the degradation of the Mother figure, and for obscenity, today it is appreciated as a masterpiece.

Considered one of Lawrence’s finest works, the eBook and Audio Book versions can be easily accessed on Mediafaze. The story follows the life of Paul Morel, a young, budding artist, and his family. However, dissatisfaction slowly sets into their lives, leading the husband to beat up his wife.

Gertrude shifts her attention to her eldest son William at first, who tries to save his mother from the cruelty of his sire. But he dies young, after which Gertrude shifts her attention onto her younger son, Paul, who feels love and repulsion towards his mother.
